He actually publishes many of his eventual book chapters as feature articles in the <a href="http://www.newyorker.com/" rel="nofollow">New Yorker</a> so by the time his books come out I've read much of it before. David Sedaris and Elizabeth Kolbert, two authors I'm really inclined to like, do the same thing and both of their last books were also disappointments. Here's what I had with me on my list trip across the Atlantic: Carl Hiaasen's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Skinny-Dip-Carl-Hiaasen/dp/0375411089" rel="nofollow">Skinny Dip</a> and Harlan Coben's <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tell-No-One-Harlan-Coben/dp/0752844717/" rel="nofollow">Tell No One</a>. Both of them are pretty trashy, but make for very good company at four o'clock in the morning! I totally agree about Malcolm Gladwell’s books.
